Ever heard of My Locator, an app which helps children who are lost?
The app was developed by Tomisin Jasmin Ogunnubi, a 12 years old student of Vivian Fowler Memorial College Oregun, Lagos in 2016.
The mobile app, which is available on the Google Play Store, has already been downloaded more than 1,000 times since its debut in 2016.
“The app can also link you to Google Maps and show you the directions from your current location to the location that you had previously saved,” says Tomisin, who is now 15 and studies in Ikeja, Nigeria.
This app is divided into three sections:
Current Location: It automatically shows your current location while the VIEW ON THE MAP button shows the current location and the neighboring streets.
Save My Current Location: This saves your current location and remembers it for future reference.
Remembered Place: This section of the app displays the saved location and its GPS. Peradventure, you move to another location, this button goes to google map and show the route from your location to your remembered place.
Alert Button: One of Tomisin’s vision is to protect a user, especially school pupils. Therefore, a feature has been added to the app which helps in times of emergency.
When the button is pressed, Lagos State Emergency number would be called and a message showing your current location will be sent to them for an urgent help.
Tomision developed her app under the guidence of an Information and Communications Technology partnership, between her school, Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, and New Horizons Computer Learning Center. Here, Tomision was able to learn the necessary skills and knowledge needed to develop her app.
