You are popularly known as April Laugh& FitMrsFats on social media. Please tell us what inspired both names?

When I started blogging, I thought it would be weird for my friends and family to read about my posts online. So, I created April Laugh as my pseudonym but it has since stuck since then. FitMrsFats happened when I got married, I think I got bored of having aprillaugh on my fitness page, lol. Nothing major at all.

-Have you always been a fitness enthusiast?

Yes, I’ve always being a fitness enthusiast for as long as I can remember. From ditching public transport to taking a long walk home after the day’s job. However, I started being fitness conscious three year ago when I signed up for a fitness competition in Lagos with TW Magazine. It totally changed my life as I went from flab to fit within 12 weeks.

-Fitness appears to be the in thing now, can you please tell us why anyone interested in living a fit lifestyle should sign up with you?

Fitness is a way of life and should be incorporated into our everyday living. It is gaining the popularity it deserves because our generation is becoming more aware of the health and the long-term benefits of being fit.

Carbohydrates food is king in Nigeria. How can an average mum get healthier food choices without breaking the bank?

Shop at the local market rather than supermarkets.

Most mums complain that time is a major reason why they don’t exercise. What advice do you have for such mums?

If you have time to brush your teeth and apply make-up in the morning, then you have time to put in 30 minutes of workout.

Social media images, videos of celebrities ‘snapping back’ almost immediately after being delivered of a baby has led to a ‘snap back’ craze for new mums. What advice can you give for such mums?

RELAX! You carried that baby for nine months; don’t expect any snapback magic in nine weeks! Enjoy being a mum and everything else will fall into place, like abs of steel.

-What are some of the lessons motherhood has taught you?

Prioritize! Every minute counts! Everyday counts!

What qualities do you admire in your husband and what do you think is the secret to a successful marriage?

There are a lot of things that I love about my husband but I admire his privacy and patience in everything. I’m a social butterfly and being with someone like him thrills me all the time. We’ve been married for two years and I’ll say the only secret to a successful marriage is communication and togetherness in everything.

-How do you juggle your roles as a wife, mother and a fitness entrepreneur?

You know me as a fitness entrepreneur, but I’m also a wife and a mom to Bryan. Between my work and my family, I have one hectic (and not always predictable) schedule but I always find time to stay committed to my health 100 per cent of the time. This is because I don’t leave it to chance, I pray, I plan and I prepare – from my workouts, my family time, and my workout schedules. It takes the grace of God!

-What simple exercise routines can an average mum begin with?

Brisk walking; doesn’t cost a dime!

As a fitness entrepreneur, how have you employed social media to grow your business?

I just have fun with the process. I’ve had quite a number of people that signed on by saying – I stumbled on your page on Instagram-

Most SMEs who are mums are yet to tap into the enormous potentials social media holds for the growth of their business. Can you spare some advice for such mums?

I’ll advice that they stay persistent and passionate about their businesses. Asides that, the nature of their businesses would also determine how much time they’ll need to invest of social media while communicating to their prospective customers.

-Who is a fabulous mum in your own words?

A fabulous mum is one that makes a conscious effort to be amazing all round; from taking care of her husband, her kids, herself and tending to the things that drives her purpose. We can only achieve this by the grace of God.

Do find time to consider fashion and how do you love to dress?

Fashion is like a chore for me! I have more workout clothes than dresses and more running shoes than heels. I need help, lol!

-If you weren’t a fitness expert, what career path would you have towed?

If I wasn’t a fitness expert, I’ll be a journalist.
