Funke Akindele and Omoni Oboli fight to finish in Moms at War

I haven’t laughed so much in a long while as much as I did when I watched Omoni Oboli’s brilliant comedy movie, “Moms at War” on Sunday night (August 12).

Often times, I am wary of Nollywood films, which appear seemingly ‘over hyped’, but I dare say Moms at War was definitely worth the hype in many ways.

As a lover of brilliantly shot movies (picture quality-wise), I was genuinely surprised to realise that Omoni also doubled as the director when I saw the end credits.

For a very long time, only a few Nollywood filmmakers have thought to produce a film that would largely appeal to an important segment of the Nigerian populace (Mothers). So, the Moms at War team deserves some accolades in this regard.

To give you an idea of what this movie ‘feels’ like is to have you picture desperate housewives. I am sure die-hard fans of Desperate Housewives like myself will love this film.

Let us dive into the cast of this movie. It parades seasoned acts like Funke Akindele, Omoni Oboli, Eucharia Anumobi, Michelle Dede, Derenle Edun and Yul Edochie.

Have you ever pictured what starring fan favourites like Funke and Omoni in one movie will look like? It is nothing but pure drama!

The producers had earlier stated in a statement that the film tells the story of two mothers who would do anything for their children. They, however, failed to mention that the movie touches on so many hitherto ‘silent’ salient and difficult topics like parenting teens, work-life-balance, family values, parent-teacher relationships, support systems, teenage dating, true friendships and so much more.

Omoni, who doubles as the director of the movie, stars as Ebubechukwu, a posh career woman who was born with a silver spoon and expects her only daughter to follow in her footsteps.

Funke stars as Olaide, a self-made woman who built herself up from nothing to raise her son and give him the life she did not have.

With their children competing for a place in a prestigious scholars programme, everything starts to derail as the mothers go head to head to ensure that their own child wins.

These days, there aren’t too many movies with believable and relatable themes that make you think deeply, but Moms at War is different. Save for minor forgivable gaffs, Moms at War is almost flawless.

Beyond the entertainment value and generous dose of humour, this film will prompt you to think and re-access your role as a mum.

If you’re looking for a movie to watch discuss with your mum friends, then Moms at War is a great choice.

I must, however, warn you, this movie is much more than a feel-good movie, its one film that indeed needs a second part, after all, a mum’s job is never done.

Your time is precious, and so is your money, Moms at War deserves both.

It gets a 4 star from FABMUMNG
